The Ptarmigan String Quartet will play two shows in unexpected venues during Boulder Arts Week, meaning that folks in Boulder will have the opportunity to engage with the arts whether they like it or not. Victoria Bryan, cellist for the group, filled us in on what they have planned.
Describe your work in 10 words or less:
A professional string quartet that performs for special events.
Tell us about one of your favorite encounters with art in Boulder:
Boulder and surrounding communities have great symphony orchestras.
Three of our musicians perform with local symphonies and chamber music ensembles. The opportunity to attend these kinds of concerts and to perform in local orchestras enriches us and everyone in our community involved with music.
If you could collaborate with any artist in Boulder, who would it be and why?
We enjoy performing music for art show openings and would love to work with any Boulder artist(s) who is having an up-coming opening. We would also enjoy collaborating with the University of Colorado Theater Department.
What will you be doing for Boulder Arts Week?
Ptarmigan String Quartet will perform two concerts of Classic Rock and Roll (Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Stones) on April 5, 2014. The first performance will be from noon-1:30 PM at McGuckin Hardware; the second performance will be at the madelife store where we will collaborate to present live music accompanied by a beautiful video collage created by madelife staff.
We are scheduled to perform music for a CU Theater salon in May, and many other special events throughout the summer including weddings and receptions.
