We asked Anna Salim of Downtown Boulder, Inc. to tell us a little more about Downtown Boulder's Student Banner Project People's Choice Award, which will be voted on during the inaugural Boulder Arts Week. Here's what she had to say.

Describe your work in 10 words or less:

Downtown advocacy and community events that enhance the Boulder experience.

Tell us about one of your favorite encounters with art in Boulder:

We expanded our ever-popular Tulip Fairy Parade last year into a full-blown Festival.  One of my favorite encounters with art happened here with numerous arts-related non-profits participating with free arts activities for the entire Fairy-clad community.

If you could collaborate with any artist in Boulder, who would it be and why?

Last year we brought Frequent Flyers out with their portable rig to our summer art show, Open Arts Fest.  It was awesome.  They enhanced the visual arts experience with performance art for attendees.  We’re looking forward to doing it again!

What will you be doing for Boulder Arts Week?

Last fall, we worked with 66 budding artists from Columbine Elementary, Casey Middle and Boulder High Schools to produce original banner art for 50 light poles along Pearl Street Mall – and they’re up now through mid-April.  During Boulder Arts Week we’ll be inviting the entire community to weigh in and vote for the People’s Choice Award.  The winner will receive a $100 Downtown Boulder gift card!

Then what?

Our event season really kicks off mid-April with our food & wine event Taste of Pearl on April 13th and then the Tulip Fairy & Elf Festival on April 27th.  Then we just don’t stop: Bands on the Bricks, the Pearl Street Mile, Open Arts Fest – Pearl Street Mall is the place to be in the summers!
