We asked the creative minds at Boulder Bach Festival and 3rd Law Experimental Dance/Theater, two Boulder-based organizations that have come together to create a collaborative piece just for Boulder Arts Week, to tell us a little bit about their project, Obstinate Pearl, presented at The Dairy Center for the Arts on March 28th and 29th. Marcia Schirmer (Boulder Bach Fest) and Katie Elliott (3rd Law) were kind enough to give us some details about what we can expect from their collaboration, as well as what each of these organizations have offer to the community year-round.
Describe your work in 10 words or less:
3rd Law: every action has an equal and opposite reaction (Newton).
Boulder Bach Fest: satisfy those who love Bach and introduce Bach to others.
Tell us about one of your favorite encounters with art in Boulder:
Walking through The Dairy where we can experience a variety of art forms sharing the same space and having the experience of live art in process from studio to stage.
If you could collaborate with any artist in Boulder, who would it be and why?
Anyone willing to work jointly on a conceptual idea that moves through different environments and uses a variety of mediums as a conduit to communicate a message, a beautiful act, a perspective or an issue of import to our community through an artistic expression.
What will you be doing for Boulder Arts Week?
THE DAIRY CENTER FOR THE ARTS PRESENTS OBSTINATE PEARL
The Boulder Bach Festival with 3rd Law Dance/Theater
An intimate collaboration between the musical artistry of international violinist Zachary Carrettin with the dance artists of 3rd Law, guided by artistic co-directors Katie Elliott and Jim LaVita. Driven by the transcendent music of J.S. Bach, this evening draws the listener/viewer forward from the seventeenth century into the modern era with Carrettin’s passionate performance on the electric violin and Elliott’s powerful choreographic interpretation of the baroque sensibility.
In celebration of being able to do what we have done because of the space that we share, 3rd Law Dance/Theater will end it’s season with an evening of excerpts from some of the many dance works we have created at The Dairy Center for the Arts. JUNE 13 & 14, 2014 at The Dairy Center for the Arts.
